Manufacturer: Jiffy
I used this product to start some seeds for the garden. Out of 72, only about eight germinated and two of those died very quickly. I had used a similar product but from a different brand earlier in the year to start more of the same seeds, and I had almost all of them start. I do not have a green thumb, so perhaps I did something wrong the second time. But as far as I can tell, the only difference was the brand of seed starter.
Thank you for your prompt service.I am in love with these peat pots! I’ve gardened for years and never tried them before. They’re so convenient, you don’t have the mess associated with pouring potting soil into tiny pots, and they cost less than buying starter pots and dirt! Each hardened puck grows into a netted pot of peat about 7x its size, when you add water. They’re a huge timesaver and a genius invention!
These are the larger pellets. If you have the trays at home for the smaller ones, these won’t fit in the circles. But they’re great. I just set up 6 with flower seeds in my window they expanded as expected and other than a higher percentage of larger sticks than I expected, they are amazing for seed starting indoors and then throwing in a pot or right in the ground.
These were great for my needs - any species will fit in these. The Jiffy 7's that come pre-loaded in a tray are very small plugs. These are about the same height, but wider. 60-70 of them will fill a standard tray, depending if you line them up in neat rows or cram as many in as you can. The only improvement I can suggest is the net is NOT biodegradable.
Looks like jiffy 7 I bought before but not the same! I planted my seeds as usual, hardly any grew, and the ones that grew died once it reached about 1 1/2 to 2 inch high. . Something wrong with materiel used in the making of those. I have used jiffy 7 for years with great result, this time to my surprise, it turned out really bad.
They look great. I have ordered this product before and will again when needed. They are exactly the right size that I need. It is really hard to find this size in most stores. Most of the ones you find in store are 48mm up to 50mm, way to large to fit in most of my tray's. I would recommend this product.
Although these say Jiffy I’m not sure they are the brand name ones. They seem muddier than the ones I normally use and seem to be holding too much water. Only 11 out of 36 that I planted have come up so far. I have replanted to see if more will come up. Could be the seeds I used or other factors as well tho.
These jiffy peat pellets were amazing and much cheaper for a fraction of a cost than the ones I get from the store. It worked well for my seeds. On the day it arrived, I started planting my seeds and now they are half inch tall. I will buy it again next year. It was delivered earlier than expected.
Not sure why it says these are jiffy pellets... they show up in a plastic bag with a sticker that says new holland industries on it. They are peat moss and equivalent to jiffy but I don’t understand why they don’t just say what they are. Anyways they’re fine but they aren’t jiffy brand .
If you haven't used these before, they expand when water is added. Self contained growing medium for seed starting. When ready to plant out, I would recommend cutting and discarding the casing to allow roots to establish in your container/ raised bed/ in ground garden.Good value for $
