Description

Grodan A-OK 1.5-inch stone wool starter plugs provide a uniform propagation medium for germinating seeds and rooting cuttings. Each sheet contains 98 plugs engineered to distribute moisture while maintaining the air space needed for healthy early root development.

The dimensionally consistent plugs feature preformed planting holes and a scored, easy-separate sheet format. Once roots are established, individual plugs can be transplanted into compatible stone wool blocks, net pots, hydroponic systems or larger growing media with minimal root disturbance.

Key Features & Grower Benefits

  • Uniform stone wool construction: Consistent fibre structure supports even moisture distribution and repeatable propagation results across the sheet.
  • Balanced root-zone conditions: The porous material retains nutrient solution while preserving oxygen-filled pore space for developing roots.
  • Preformed planting holes: Seeds and prepared cuttings can be inserted quickly without manually boring each plug.
  • Scored 98-plug format: Plugs separate cleanly for sorting, spacing and transplanting, offering more flexibility than fixed plastic cell inserts.
  • Clean, lightweight handling: The compact sheet is easy to hydrate, move and organize on propagation benches or inside standard nursery environments.

Recommended Applications

Grodan A-OK plugs are suited to humidity-controlled propagation areas, indoor grow tents, commercial greenhouse benches and vertical-farm nurseries. They provide a dependable starting point for crops that will later enter drip irrigation, ebb-and-flow, deep-water culture or stone wool block systems.

Use them for vegetable seeds, herbs, leafy greens, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, climbing vines and flowering plants. They are also practical for rooting prepared cuttings before transplanting into larger containers, greenhouse trellising programs or canopy-training systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are Grodan A-OK starter plugs reusable?
A: They are intended for one propagation cycle. Roots grow into the stone wool structure, so reusing or attempting to sanitize established plugs may damage roots and increase the risk of transferring crop residue or pathogens.

Q: Do the planting holes accommodate both seeds and cuttings?
A: Yes. The preformed holes suit individual seeds and many commonly prepared cuttings. Select healthy, appropriately trimmed stems and avoid forcing unusually thick material into the plug.

Works Great, What more can I ask...

My First attempt with Rockwool. My clippings Root, To Carry on their Genetics. Slightly Easier for me, with the Rockwool Cubes, added Benefit, for me at least. Cut a little branch, scrape the outer Skin/Bark/Layer about 1/2" Up the stem, some Rooting Hormone on the stem, into the pre-soaked R-Cube, then into a Cup Half Filled with R/O+ Water, week n' Half later, decent Root system, into some dirt to grow :) Not Hitting 100%, But it is my first time using, I'll need Another chance to adjust some Variables, then God willing, it will be better success Rate, I'm certain of it! :)

Value for money

I've purchased a few different rockwool products from different sellers and so far this is the best bang for the buck. This has performed as expected and the exact same as other more expensive rockwool cubes. There is no real difference so why not get more for less. I'm not sure why there is such a huge price different between different companies and why there are different sized sheets that are more expensive.

Very happy with this product!

I am really pleased with these growing cubes. They absorb immediately. They maintain structure when seedlings have advanced so you can easily pull them apart (no need to separate them before seeding and soaking). There is no netting residue left in the ground after harvest, like the “pucks”. I have them in my shopping cart to purchase for next spring !!(from Northeastern Ontario Canada)

It’s a winner!

I tested three mediums and this was the only one to work. They work for seeds, clones or random plant cuttings but I do use an aqua cup to keep them bound. They constantly perform over and above the three mediums I tested.Highly recommend

Great purchase

Does what it is designed for! Absorbs lots of water and stays wet. Perfect for my tower garden. Yes, some holes could have been made better but it is so easy to make one that it does not really matter! They don't swell much once fully soaked.

Shed little fibers in the water

Of course, it is rockwool so no surprises there but using this in small aquaponic projet, I noticed that there was a lot of fibers in the water from the frequent up/downs of water.Maybe in hydroponics it is not much of a concern.

Great value

They have little to no hole punched in them sometimes but I just push a bic pen in about a quarter inch and voila! They work just fine and more reasonably priced. As long as they stay at this price point they're a good deal.

Exactly what I was looking for

My only complaint with these is that if they were packaged smaller, and if they are easier to pull apart. They are perfect for my hydroponics tower will most likely order again in the future.

Seems legit to me.

Product came as advertised and with no damage. I kinda expected it to be a little beat up as I've ordered rockwool online before. No Problems from these guys. 10/10 happy.

Exactly as described

Second time buying this. Works great, I do recommend soaking in water a bit first then add plants so it can puff up a bit. Or else sometimes the plant falls out.
