I purchased this LED light for the purposes of getting a head start on gardening season. I've been using this LED light to grow tomato seedlings indoors. Now that its warmer outside, I've been able to take the seedlings outside during the day for natural light. But in the evening I bring them in for supplement light with these LEDs. I've observed that a single LED light strip is adequate when starting tomato seeds in a typical 22" x 11" tray. But once the seedlings get larger (4-6" tall) the leave bunch up together like their trying to reach the LED lighting. Fortunately I purchased two of these LED lights and have juried rig them together to provide more light to the tomatoes. The power output is 48W which is still less than a 60W incandescent light bulb. The LED light strip allowed me to start my seedlings at the beginning of March which gives the tomatoes an extra 3 months of growing time. Hopefully we'll be able to get the fruit to ripen on the vine. The specifications indicate 50,000 hours of operation. This is the first season I've used the product. If I used it continuously for 12 hours each day for 3 months, that would only amount to 1080 hours of usage in a single season. In theory the product should work for 46 years under my use case. The product does have a 90 degree beam width as stated in their specs, but like I said, I think the plants require more light intensity as they get larger. I'm not certain if this LED light strip is capable of growing full sized lettuce indoors. I may give it a try in the Winter and update this post.
after the first light i received did not work (i could see a broken connector through the lense) i quickly got a replacement sent to me within 2 days.sadly, when the second fixture arrived it did not work either! i checked the connector to see if they had sent me back the same one but this one was not broken, just disconnected! so instead of returning it again i opened the end of the fixture and plugged in the connector myself and it worked. so much for quality control? other wise i like the light now that its working.
Amateur gardener here. This LED strip is way brighter than any single 24W bulb I've seen. The construction is solid and I have no fear of it being damaged with a little rough handling. It comes with a power cord, plus a shorter link power cord for chaining units together. The spectrum as a lot of blue in it - good for vegging but looks mostly white to the naked eye.
Excellent product. Her Majesty gave me two and a timer for my birthday so I bought three more, a timer and the 24" connector (timer only has 2 outlets). 24" has a 24 watt draw and easily illuminates 2 X 10"X20" (1020 common size) plant trays. Full spectrum - really clean light - very little heat. Planted my peppers, tomatoes and onion seed. All growing properly - no legginess.
Yeah this light puts out a nice even light good for rooting clones. However as others have stated the unit was broken upon delivery with the little wire clip inside broken off and disconnected, it was an easy fix but really should have better connectors on the internals of this light for the price vs a normal t5 led fixture.
I have several SunBlaster led light strips 1-36" and 4-24", it's a well made light, customer support was great too, i was missing hangers on one of the light strips, I called SunBlaster directly and they mailed me a set in a few days. Now that for me is a great company to by from.
First package came mangled and opened. Missing the hanging brackets and power supply cord. After about a month of back and forth and sending my package back, i finally received a complete and undamaged package!
Unlike other people, my two lights arrived in perfect condition and have been giving a beautiful growing light to my plants for about 2 weeks. I'm very happy and ordering two more!
Came in perfect condition, haven’t had a problem yet! Love having the ability to choose how you mount it. Would recommend making the investment into the LED lights !
This light is so much brighter than my t5 ho florecent. It was worth the money. Although there are cheaper led lights I don’t know if there’s a difference.
