Honestly I had never heard of this before this summer. Upon reading what this stuff can do, I had to try it. It seems like a lot of money to pay for what looks like a bag of black dirt - but it's really worm poo. The articles I read had many great claims for this stuff and the good thing about it is that you can put it right on top of the dirt around your plant if you've already planted a seed or plant from a nursery. If you haven't planted anything yet - then you can mix it in the soil before planting. It's supposed to help if you have molds or bugs or most any problem that is causing your plant to wilt or get brown leaves. This is why I bought it because some of my tomatoes weren't doing that well. I felt like the soil in my garden wasn't a very good quality. When the bag of castings arrived I realized that I probably would need much more of it considering the size of my garden. That would have been too costly. So I just used some on the plants that seemed to be having issues. Honestly I don't know whether it helped or not. I had a few tomatoes - but nothing like I had wanted. My squash plants did great and so did my pole beans. I like the idea of the castings and want to learn more about it. I'm not going to say that they are no good. I just wish it didn't cost so much. However, I guess like anything else it depends on how much work it took to create. Gathering up worm poo probably takes a while. So that's most likely why it costs a lot. I get that. I am going to buy it again. I still have some left to use on my indoor plants - who I think will benefit more from it anyway.

I read about the value of adding worm castings to minimize damage from pests. I'm amazed! Not one of my roses had aphids on it this year. I mixed it in with the soil I use for my lettuces, and then did a small lettuce container without it. The small lettuce container was filled to the brim with whitefly, but the crop with this product was virtually pest-free.

While worm castings are rich in nitrogen, I would never use them as a single source of nitrogen. Will it add organic material and micronutrients to your soil? Yes! That's always a good thing. But it shouldn't be your single source of fertilizer.

I like to work this into the soil as best as I can and then top with a layer of mulch. For containers, I just mix it in well with the potting mix. You want this to get to the roots of your plants so they'll absorb the chemical that kills insects. I'm interested to see if this will help with fungus gnats since I always seem to be cursed with a fresh bag of potting mix that contains nothing but gnats...

The price is expensive, but it beats buying and spraying pesticides, no matter how organic they may be. I'm an inherently lazy gardener so something I can just add to the soil that will keep large infestations at bay is worth the price. I bought two 30-lbs bags this year for our very old orange tree so we'll see if it helps with that as well.

Wow this rocks!! My garden soil was absolutely dead. Truly. It wouldn't absorb water & looked awful. I composted after I had planted my vegetables (I know, but I didn't realize I should've done it ahead of time) but I felt like I needed more. Everyone raved about worm castings so I decided to give them a try. Well Wow!!! Not only did my soil start absorbing water, but my plants have taken off!! I use raised planters and am in Los Angeles so the heat can get harsh. I put them around all my plants & worked them into the rest of the soil. 2 weeks later I put more around the base of my plants. I planted my garden exactly one month ago, at the end of May, & my tomato plants, zucchini, and herbs look absolutely amazing. This is the most growth I've ever had in a month. The tomato plants & zucchini all have blossoms and the leaves are lush. I am beyond thrilled!! My poor garden was not a success the last 2 years but this year I finally have confidence & excitement!! I added it to my flowers in planters and they too look amazing. I cannot recommend this enough. Thank you Unco!!!

I use earthworm castings in conjunction with several other types of compost for maximum nutrient effectiveness. Of the earthworm castings I've used, I find that these have the darkest color and the best texture. It has a pleasant earthy smell that reminds me of the woods. My daughter loves to run her fingers through this stuff, and she calls it "black gold." Yeah, I know that may sound odd when you are talking about a 12 year old girl, but she recognizes the benefit this stuff gives her tomatoes.

I have had excellent results using this product as an amendment. I use it in my "soil" mixture for my Square Foot Garden. I follow the methods developed by Mel Bartholomew and I've had amazing successes.

This product does cost a bit more than what I pay for another brand at my local nursery, but the difference between the two is like night and day. The texture, the color, the smell and even the density are all different. If I could afford to use this brand exclusively, I would. I've purchased quite a few bags here, and I've never been disappointed.

I've used other brands of earthworm castings, but this is my favorite. As soon as you open the bag you can see and smell that it is genuine worm-poop. No, it doesn't stink, it just smells earthy and composty, but very identifiable. My germination rates have increased tremendously, and better yet, the survival of my sprouts after germination as also increased. Since using this additive to my germination mixes, my success in the greenhouse has really boosted my confidence. I even started my own little worm farm, but they could never produce as much as I need, so I will definitely be purchasing more.

My only complaint would be to the seller as far as shipping goes. (subtract 1 star) The bags are heavy. I bought 4 of them with several other items. They were tossed in one end of a long, narrow box, the other lighter items in the other end. Guess how my box arrived?! Duct-taped like crazy from the carrier (thankfully) because the heavy end of the box was totally ineffective for shipping heavy items.

Pros: additional organic matter for soil & plant; pre-sifted vs chunky stuff from my own compost so you can use it in plant starting mix; doesn't seem to contain plant seeds so doesn't add weeds, unlike my own compost
Cons: seems to be at least half sand, so expensive for what you get; based on organic matter, but is it pesticide/herbicide free?

I like the idea of vermicomposting and using worm compost, but I'm just not sure that this, or any commercial mix, is a good solution for an organic gardener. Nor does it seem to be a super fertilizer, though it certainly adds something to the soil mix--the issue is whether you can afford to add enough to make a real difference if this was all you'd use. I usually supplement with a fertilizer and side dress with a liquid fertilizer during the growing season. On the other hand, unless or until you have your own completely organic system set up (e.g., chickens/rabbits/livestock & pasture), you have to work with what's available.

Superb product, I use it. I planted chamomile in some raised beds that are in the middle of the lawn where a palm tree use to be, well, I had Unco Wiggle Worm Soil Builder along with my regular peat etcetera, I planted 20 plugs and some lavender and had to do something else for a few days so I was unable to tend to that particular bed for about 3-4 days. When I returned, the sand was so dry underneath the peat and everything, all of the chamomiles had shriveled and the even the lavender was stressed out, I looked around so I could rebuild the planting and found that some of the chamomiles and lavenders were lush and much larger, thickened out, I began looking into the ground around those and found that they were nested in accidental clumps of Earthworm Castings, this product saved ⅓ of the bed that day just by being placed around the base of the plants! Since that day, I mix this with all of my garden soil amendments and keep all of the gardens absolutely stunningly fantastic !

I have an old mallow bush that has had a white fly infestation every year beginning in the spring and running into November. It is the only place in my yard where whiteflies have been a problem. Because the honey bees love the mallow flowers, I have not wanted to use a systemic or spray with harsh chemicals so the white flies have been right at home there for ten years or so. In early March this year I placed about a half bag of earthworm castings on the ground under the mallow, spreading them several feet on all sides of the bush. To my delight and surprise - no white flies on the mallow or surrounding area this year. They've moved away from my yard. The honey bees are not at all turned off by the castings and continue to enjoy the flowers. Now that I've seen how well they work, I will never again be without a supply of earthworm castings. I can't believe I didn't know about their benefits earlier in my gardening adventures.

OK, let's get right to it. This is undoubtedly the best product you can add to your soil. Yes, the little bags are expensive, but you can mix it with other products. Like, I occasionally add 2 2cf bags of Miracle Grow to one bag of WW which I spread on my lawn using a mulch spreader. This really works well and usually I also add 2 cups of alfalfa meal. If planting a nice specimen tree you can use all WW (which I have done many times) or mix it 50/50 with the existing soil. I made a nice patching mix by adding 4 cups of bluegrass seed to a bag of WW and it grew beautifully. Yes, you can purchase a one-ton (2000lbs.) tote (which I have done many times), but these bags are so nice to have on hand. In fact, don't live without them! There are differences between castings, and before I found Unco I used to get sticks, stones, and even an animal skull once. So, thank you Unco, you're the best!!

I concoct my own house plant soil, which most of us avid plant owners do. I use 25% coco fiber, 25% pumice, 25% cactus soil, and 25% orchid bark. I feel as though this allows for nice drainage - especially when you’re in a rush to tend to your plants and may get a little heavy handed with watering. This time I also added horticultural charcoal which added multiple benefits. Also I add about 4-8oz of worm castings to each plant every few months depending on its size as a fertilizer. Then every couple months when I rotate my plants I use a 100% organic neem oil diluted spray to control any pests that may get into my home and decided to hang out on my plants. - I had gnats before and this method was the only way I was able to control them. One of my calatheas had spider mites once (prior to my use of neem oil) unfortunately the outcome was poor and I wish I had purchased the neem oil prior.
