Espoma products, are really good. They are " slow-releasing", unlike the synthetic type/s of fertilizers, and supplements/ minerals. They are better for the soil, even though they take longer to react. Synthetics strip the soils, of nutrients, and the " Calcium" and Sulfur...that this Gypsum adds...helps aid to deficiencies to keep your tomatoes and Peppers, from getting that terrible BER ( Bottom End Rot). Now...it can also come from inconsistent watering, but you need the Calcium especially when you have a huge amount of harvest/ tomatoes...on a plant...at 1 time. This Gypsum also treats soils that are clay-type, and aids to loosen, and break that clay up. Try some...but be sure to get the pelletized kind. Espoma products been around a long time. Proven/ Quality made products!!@

I am only a hobbyist gardener and usually learn from trial and error, and asking the old farmers around here what they do to fix a problem. I finally learned that the end of the summer tomatoes, that get big ugly brown spots just as you go to pick them, are from the plant depleting all the calcium from the soil over time. I always thought a fungus or not watering properly! Toss a small handful of gypsum in the hole before planting your tomatoes and it will solve this issue! These come in easy to carry and reseal bags and very convenient to order here and have delivered.

Like I said, first test your soil. Then, if your soil is low in calcium and not magnesium, add gypsum. If it's low in both calcium and magnesium, add some dolomite lime, but pay attention to your PH, you don't want it getting any higher than 7. Gypsum is also an excellent source of sulfer, so keep that in mind. Tomatoes and peppers are calcium, magnesium, and sulfur HOGS. Get a GOOD soil test that looks at all the macro nutes plus the main micro nutes as well. Gypsum has an application in MANY gardens, but you need to be informed about your specific needs.

I had a problem finding horticultural gypsum locally, early in the growing season, and had long-season peppers (bhut jokola and scorpion peppers) that had to be started indoors in January in order to finish up on time. I ordered Espoma garden gypsum and like it better than the brand I normally get locally. It breaks up nicely in the soil when watered, and the peppers love it... some of the best starts in 4 years of growing super hot peppers.

This is a hard fertilizer to find in stores right now because everybody’s gardening due to the COVID-19 virus. I did find a bag for $10 in a nursery store who just got a shipment in after already placing this order. I just wish they made this in bigger bags rather than buying small bags like this. This is great for not only putting in your flower beds but also for your lawn to help break up hard clay soil.

I highly recommend this gypsum for correcting calcium deficient soil. It worked wonders for stopping blossom end rot on my established tomato plants. Other calcium sources I tried either did nothing or burned the plants. Just make sure you actually have a deficiency in the soil since other things can prevent calcium from reaching the fruit. A professional soil test is the best way to find out.

It saved my avocado tree. My avocado tree wasn't doing well subject to the clay soil, poor drainage and root rot. I moved the plant to a large stand alone container, and used the gypsum. My tree rebounded and now I have 4 avocados and my tree looks healthy, and the leaves are now almost all green. No more leaves filled with brown on it, or a wilting avocado tree. I would buy this again.

This product worked wonders.
I have a young magnolia Little Gem tree that was suffering from salt burn. The foliage was black at the tips and the tree was sparse. I sprinkled a small amount around the perimeter of the tree and watered deeply and regularly over the next several months.
The tree has responded very well! New flush of growth with no salt burn signs.

I use this as an additive for coir substrates when growing mushrooms. Works really well for those purposes. It's a little expensive, but hoenstly a little goes a LONG way so this bag will last me a couple of years. It makes a HUGE difference in the overall sturdyness and rapid growth of the fruit. WELL worth the $$

I have nothing against this product at all, but it is hard to say you love a fertilizer. I just wish it wasn't so expensive. The vegetables grown in our vegetable garden are really good, but after adding all the stuff to make the soil right, they cost us tons more than buying the vegetables at Whole Foods.
