Description

Hydroguard™ is back with a new, clean look and a more powerful, concentrated formula. Hydroguard's reformulation makes it even more effective than before. Its unique formula, available exclusively from Botanicare®, contains an isolated form of bacillus bacteria known as bacillus amyloliquefaciens. This scientifically isolated bacterium was selected for its superior ability to amplify root mass and vigor, especially in hydroponic gardening, when compared with the more common and well-known bacillus subtilis species. These highly specialized rhizobacteria assist in the breakdown of organic materials and may increase nutrient availability.

Jan. 12, 2020 Update: this is a product for organic nutrients/organic supplements NOT SYNTHETIC nutrients. For those that need questions answered like me but didn't have any answered on these reviews, so here's mine. Does this work in a DWC HYDROPONIC system using synthetic nutrients such as General Hydroponic Performance Pack? No! Why? General Hydroponics nutrients are all synthetic. The do carry a organic series but come on, if your growing inn hydroponics, just stay away from organic nutrients. Do they work, some do but it's not with it. Growing in soil, use organic nutrients not synthetic. I recommended UC Roots for hydroponic systems, not hydrogaurd which is meant to break down organic compounds. You don't have organic compounds in synthetic nutrients, if you use this in DWC hydroponic systems, with synthetic nutrients, you'll kill your plants over time. I can't review on how this works in soil or with organic nutrients shop this is not a bad review or a negative comment. I didn't read what my buddy actually gave me cause cause it's sold in the same container, after the fact I realized it was something else, hydrogaurd. Just read the labels...

I've read so much negative comments about how the dates are off or scratched off removed etc, I just ordered another bottleand it better be right! If it is I'll post a great review.

Update: Can this be used with general hydroponics performance pack NOT organic? I'm seeing that this product is intended for organic nutrients, but what about none organic? Did I really waste my money? Or would I be able to get a refund or exchange it for a clear res or skunklabs use to make res clear and it was the best ever, but it's disappeared now. Any suggestions?

could not get rid of root rot, not with 34% h202, not with 15ppm of chlorine, change outs did not help. I had high chlorine levels in the system which did keep PH stable, but plants would not eat the rot was not effected just kept the water clean. I then added the last of the h202 I had left to neutralize the chlorine, and do what ever damage it could to the rot. about 24 hours after since there was plenty of work for the h202 to do it most likely had all turned into water\oxygen within the first 24 hours. I then without a change out added 2ml gallon of Hydroguard, then a about 1\2ml gallon every day after for about a week. The plants almost instantly started eating 30-40ppm per day, and the water was dropping again although I had clear indication that the rot was still there as the PH would drop 7-10 points first day then slowly got better maybe 5-6 points etc, but became very stable after several days only raising 1-2 points as it should if the plants are eating good. I think some have success with sterile and some with bacteria like Hydroguard.

I found a product called sag fungicide its a different strain bacteria then Hydroguard, but the same species but extremely concentrated for a fair price i will be testing it when my HG runs out. UC roots the recommended product was not the right choice for me. as I don't know if I could have added enough to keep my system clean. also I have no light leaks I'm very experienced and knowledgeable I understand these things, also my chiller is oversized and rez is at 67 degrees. first time trying beneficial bacteria and I love it, it seems logical too its like putting 1 billion mosquito into a sealed room with idk couple 100 squirrel's lol they have no defense.

I've been Hydroguard for less than a week and my garden is already looking healthier! I will be looking at Botanicare products first when I have special plant nutrition needs.

Update 11/4/17: I've been using Hydroguard for almost a year. When I purchased it originally, I was looking for a solution to making my houseplants recover from a horrible gnat infestation. I had eliminated the pests but was on the verge of losing plants I've had for a decade. The Hydroguard was the solution. It brought my plants back to good health in 7-10 days.

I've been using it constantly since then. I had a thrip infestation start in mid-Spring this year and once again my plants got sickly. I tried increasing the amount of Hydroguard I was adding into the feed water to 4ml per gallon (Botanicare recommends 2ml/gallon). This worked very nicely! My plants started coming back to good health despite the fact that I still had thrips. The thrips proved to be very difficult to eliminate, it took about 2 months, but at least the health of my plants dramatically improved despite the pests.

I am now going to be a lifelong user of this product since I love having a house full of plants and I get pests in the house every year!

Thank you Botanicare!

I had a couple plants that unfortunately were overwatered by my SO and developed root rot, by the time I found out it was already in the advanced stages, 70% of the root system was brown and mushy. I searched desperately all over the internet for a solution, most sites said to toss the plants because there wasn’t a cure and I found a couple that suggested using diluted hydrogen peroxide which at first looked promising but it didn’t seem to fix the problem completely (I had put all my dying plants in water so I could see the roots).
I stumbled on this product after doing a search for root rot treatments (I scrolled quite a few pages before finding it ) and bought this product. Read the directions and added 1-2 drops of this to the water my plants were in and waited. About a week later all my plants were starting to grow new healthy roots and the dying ones were starting to look better too, even the sad three inch stick that used to be a Chinese evergreen but had been whittled down to nothing as I tried to save it, it only had one dying root but slowly I’ve noticed another new one starting to emerge, it’s a miracle and it’s all due to this product!

I know people have different opinions on this stuff. But from personal experience it's a god send. There was a few weeks in my grow where I had upgraded lights but hadn't upgraded my exhaust fan. So temps went up to the 80s. So the water in my hydro system went up to mid 70s and I instantly got root Rot. I tried everything. Peroxide. Other products. Multiple clean and flushes'. Then the hydroguard. Now I was hoping for instant results. But you have to be patient. I guess it takes time for this magic to work. After 3 or 4 days of applying hydroguard I had given up. And the day I went to cut my plants down I took a peek at the roots before I killed the plants. And the hail Mary worked!!!! And has worked beautifully ever since. So use hydroguard as a preventative. And if you use it as a cure be patient. It will work. Just not right away

Decided to do strawberries this year. It's been a disaster since day 1. It took over a week for the bare roots to get here. They were in my mailbox while I was out of town 3 days in 100 degree heat. Let's just say they were nothing but slime when I opened the package. I'm not one to waste money so what hey, I went for it. They turned black and stunk and leaves were brown around the edges within a week. I ordered hydroguard as a last ditch effort to salvage my "crop". This product is freakin glorious. It's been 4 days and I see white roots. DID YOU KNOW STRAWBERRY ROOTS ARE WHITE?! I also tried this on my hydro cucumbers and O.M.G.... They did in fact, explode in growth. 4 days people. Just 4 days. Look at the pics. It also cleared up my mason jar jalapeño and now, it's about to bloom. Don't use peroxide, use this product instead.

This product is MUCH better then GH rapid root. Never had a problem with root rot, and have thick white roots with lateral branching.

Update: While I read that product is good for 6 months after opening, I saw a drop off after about 4 months. I did not notice how much until I bought a new bottle and immediately saw improvement in my plants. It’s possible that I did something to decrease the shelf life, but I have a masters degree in microbiology.... and know how to apply it to this product. For my purpose it wasn’t a huge issue, but if you are growing high value plants consider replacing every 4 months. I may do an experiment to calculate viable bacteria over time to confirm this. Will update if I find something interesting.

It’s not very expensive, and it works so well.

after I installed a chiller in my DIY hydro system, I inserted the return tube from the chiller into the aeroponics systems not realizing one of the plants was getting direct hit of water from the chiller, after a few days I looked in on the roots to check to make sure they was healthy and noticed the direct hit of water caused Major Root rot on one plant, after I noticed it was root rot I ordered the HydroGuard hoping to save the plant, after about a week the plant root rot started to clear it went from being brown and slimy to more white and it seems it seems to have helped it a lot, once I received the hydroguard I changed the water giving it fresh water along the Hydro Guard, I also made an extra gallon of water with the hydro guard and spayed the roots twice a day, all seem to have work

I'm a newbie in hydroponics. It can be expensive to startup with all that you need. As such, I held off buying this even tho so many forums recommended it. I was having some low performance plants but once I got my PPM right they were kind of doing ok. Then I saw what I thought was the beginning of root rot: slimy roots, sticking together etc. so I broke down and got this. In just 24 hours all my plants went from meh to perky happy with new growth. One plant that was on the verge of death came back strong. I now realize this product is everything the hydroponic world raves about, a must have. And I kick myself for not having used it in the first place.

This stuff was suggested to me by a local hydroponics shop worker who was specifically pointing out bacillus products. I figured I’d give it a whirl and WOW. I tested Hydroguard on some chia seeds, and when compared to the control group, the roots on the Hydroguard group exploded out of the seeds and some even seem to be popping out their seed leaves MUCH sooner than the control group. Each group was watered with exactly the same amount of water so according to the pictures it would appear this product significantly improves root growth right from the start, which gives plants an insane head start in their overall growth.
