Simple to use and understand. Comes with no instructions except on the bottle label. Simply fill vial half full of water to test, add 4 or 5 drops of ph tester, shake and match the color to the color chart on the bottle. Safe levels indicated clearly by color. Tested our tap water from 2 sinks, and color matched perfectly and indicated just slightly outside the boundaries of good levels. Tested 2 water filters, one was older and attached to sink and had just crapped out - which indicated was making water worse than from tap without the filter, and the other filter was new and in our refrigerator, which indicated was making water better. Finally, tested a bottled water from store, and indicated was equally as safe as our new refrigerator filtered water. Retested tap water and maintained slightly outside good level. Retested sink old filtered water, and maintained making water worse. Threw away old sink filter, which confirmed our suspicion that it had definitely crapped out. Happy to have our family drinking only good water from either the new filter in our fridge or store bottled water. Peace of mind for us all thanks to this wonderful easy to use product!

I bought this to test my tap water for pH. Normal tap water should be in the range of 6.0 to about 8.0. This pH solution included that range, so I bought it. When I used it, it did change color to a reasonable degree, BUT ... I have a real problem with the color comparison chart it provides. The chart is actually nothing more than a few colors printed on the bottle label. The colors are shown in 0.5 pH increments. Further, the colors are not particularly accurate on the bottle label. They show only very general "tints" for what the solution is supposed to look like. When I tested my water, its color was a pale yellow. The bottle label only showed an "orange" color for pH 5, to pale green color for pH 6 and a darker green for pH 7.0. Pale yellow presumably suggests my tap water was a pH of somewhere between 5 (orange) and pale green (6). It would have been so much nicer if the kit provided a wider pH color chart, in increments of say 0.25 pH marks. Without that, this kit is only moderately useful.

My digital pH tester was dropped in my hydro reservoir on accident, so in a pinch, I bought this testing solution. WOW! It's so messy, I accidentally dumped it on my carpet and now it's stained forever (however, it's not the seller's fault, it was mine). For more nutrient dense solution, the water is already an orange hue, so when testing the pH, it's much more difficult to differentiate the colors because the orange mixed with the yellow, still has an orange hue.

I ended up over correcting and making the pH too high because I didn't take into account that my solution was orange already. It caused my plant leaves to shrivel a bit and stop growing.

I think, if you are testing hydroponic water used for lettuce or something more mild, then this will work great, but when working with solution at 1200PPM and Flora Series nutrients, it's too difficult to read because everything is orange before testing, which affected my ability to get an accurate reading.

Comes in a little plastic bag and I like the fact that this thing is made in USA!!! not China! nothing against Chinese products but I believe in doing business as domestic as possible and have lots of faith in it since it never lets me down!
There is plenty of liquid even if you try it with 5 drops vs 3 drops. I'm obsessed and I was able to verify some of the claims by my drinking water products! By the way, Penta water (one of the most expensive brands that I bought boxes of!) followed by Voss (fancy bottles) tested the lowest with the lowest pH levels 5.5-6.5! Tap water in my town has a pH level of 8 or above!!! Go figure!
Great Price/Great Product/Fast Shipping. Will be back to get some more and not looking elsewhere!

EDIT: The product is good (as all GH products are, imo), I just had a slight mix up with the product info and a misunderstanding as to its specific abilities per measurements. Upon informing the seller, they very promptly responded and resolved my concern with 100% satisfaction!

--

I was shipped a different product from the image displayed. The color readings go from 5 straight to 6 so, if you need a ph number in the middle, you're left interpreting colors like an art major, especially if you're aiming for something specific like pH 5.7. The product image doesn't show the measurements so it's difficult to know the reading levels until you're holding the bottle to read it.

I bought the PH CONTROL KIT ,up -down solutions and ph indicator . I tested my hydroponic water. It was over 8, thats after spending hours using indicator papers ,four different brands, and calibrating three different electric ph meters . Five minutes after opening my delivery, using the indicator and the up-down solution, the ph wa6 ,right on . So easy,no guessing, so clear. It is really clear going from 4. to5. to 6. to 6.5 to7. 8. to 8.5. and back down. I am so happy general hydroponics developed this product. They need to advertise it . I ve spent hours on line trying to find a product like this. i going to get G H products now for all my grow needs.

I am trying to alkalize my body so I have been checking my pH levels each day. I was drinking distilled water thinking it was good for my health. It's not, its acidic! I decided to test my tap water, then my filtered water. To my surprise, my tap water is alkaline and my filtered water is acidic! Go figure!

I purchased these drops then tested the filtered water and distilled water sources again using the drops. It turned the filtered water into alkaline but the distilled water remained acidic.

I keep a bottle of this in my purse, in my office, and in my kitchen to use at all times.

I think this product is extremely accurate. I did in fact notice a slight difference between adding 3 or 5 drops to the vile as directed in the instructions. 3 Drops gave me a good reading but 5 drops definitely gave me a more intense reading in which ever direction the PH was. If it was low with 3 drops it was a bit lower with 5. The same goes if I had a higher PH level with 3 drops but with 5 it went up a complete point! Either way I like the product and I personally would average it out as directed and go to 4 drops. I think that gives me my best reading.

Two weeks flowering
I've used General Hydroponics HGC722145 pH Test Indicator every time I grow. It's this or another brand-otherwise you're clueless taking care of your plants. The instructions say to use 3-5 drops per test: I'm using 4-5 drops for these two plants. Previously I used three drops and am not seeing a difference: except the fluid is going down much quicker than in the past. I think it's time to go back to three drops. Using the color chart to see what your Ph level gives you a good idea, which in time guides you through the testing.

This ph test kit works better than the prong style meter i used before (which was highly inaccurate and inconsistent). The pH test kit is accurate but also a little harder to judge exact pH levels but after a few uses it becomes so easy you dont have to look at the chart printed on the bottle.

Im sure its not as great as a pH pen ($100+ easy) but for the price (4.50usd) you can't really beat it. My old prong meter cost more than that and was utter crap. this pH test kit is worth buying if you need accurate pH measurements without blowing $100.
